Big G Reunion/Help for Heroes Cyclosportive Entry Website
Les Barratt, Event Organiser
Welcome to the 2014 edition of the ‘Big G’/Help for Heroes Reunion cyclosportive promoted by Hull Thursday Road Club. This is the third running of this sportive, held on the wonderful Yorkshire Wolds roads, and we aim to make this an even bigger event than last year’s. You can be sure of a warm welcome in this unspoilt corner of Yorkshire and, as previous riders will readily testify, we always try to give entrants a well-run, value-for-money event. This cyclosportive is a second-time-this-year ‘copy’ (different start) edition of the ever-popular ‘Big G Grimpeurs des Wolds’ cyclosportive, which over the years has received some fantastic feedback, and an excellent review by Cycling Weekly, praising Hull Thursday RC for the standard of the event. This year’s Reunion event is certain to sell out quickly so make sure you enter promptly.
The inaugural Big G Cyclosportive was held in 2008 in memory of our very own ‘Big G’, Graeme Forrester, and was generally very well-received by nearly 300 riders who enjoyed the late summer sunshine and occasional heavy shower. We received some excellent feedback from the event that encouraged us to organise other events from 2009 to 2013 and again this year, twice, with the aim of increasing participation to 700 riders whilst maintaining (or improving) the organisation.
Four fully paint-marked routes are available at distances of 100km, 60km and 30km. All three routes have been chosen to take you through some of the best roads in this relatively undiscovered part of Yorkshire, and feature stunning views of the surrounding valleys and vales. On a clear day both the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors are clearly visible from the numerous high points of the route.
Please can I request that if any club members who are not riding and would be willing to help out on the day please get in touch with me by email or by phone on 07932 258182.
